When our son, Crew, was born, I knew I wanted to do something fun and a little different with his nursery. We decided to turn our old playroom into his space, and once I landed on a dog theme, everything else fell into place. We love our two goldendoodles so much, so puppies felt like the perfect (and cutest) theme for a baby boy nursery. I also loved how a blue and neutral color palette tied everything together in a calm but playful way.

Here’s the moodboard I used as my starting point:

The first thing I tackled was the window situation. I installed these blackout shades first, and the best part? They required no hardware to mount them, which made it super easy to install. Then I layered a curtain rod and curtains over the shades, and once everything was up, the room was pitch black, which was perfect for naptime.
Pro tip: If your curtains don’t glide smoothly across the rod, try adding a strip of thick glide tape along the top of the rod. Total game-changer.

I partnered with A Street Prints for a DIY Wallpaper Install, and when I tell you this wallpaper was gorgeous…I mean it. I was able to get the entire wall behind the crib done in just one day! Keep an eye out for a future blog about how to install traditional wallpaper.

The light fixture was a major win on a budget. I had a very specific look in mind, but most of the fixtures I loved were close to $500. I ended up ordering two options, one more jute and one more bamboo/rattan, so I could see them in person before deciding. I ultimately went with the rattan option, and it turned out exactly how I envisioned it.

The name sign was custom designed by Moriah at @morilandart and I love it! She custom designed it to look like watercolor, which added such a soft, special touch to the room. You can use code ASHLEYR10 for 10% off your own custom sign.

The crib is a 3-in-1 convertible crib, and I loved choosing a natural wood tone instead of plain white. It added so much warmth to the room. This was the same crib we used in my daughter’s nursery, so we were glad to be able use it again! The Labradoodle plush rocker from Pottery Barn Kids was such a fun addition and fit the theme perfectly.

And of course, every nursery needs a comfy chair. This rocker is not only beautiful, but so comfortable. It reclines and swivels easily, which has already came in handy during late-night feeds. I’ve used this same rocker for all three of my babies and would absolutely choose it again!

After touching up my built-in shelves, it was time to decorate! I used a mix of items I already have and some new items that fit my dog theme! 123 Print, Cordless LED Lamp with Dimmer, Golden Retriever stuffed animal, and personalized pillow are some of the items!

The dresser is one of my favorite pieces of furniture! I’ve had it for years and it holds so much! After painting it once before, I decided it was way too dark for the room, so I decided to lighten it up a bit. I used Adirondack Blue by Behr and it turned out beautifully! I also swapped out the knobs for rattan ones to better match the style of the room.

On top of the dresser is this changing basket (which includes a waterproof pad…a must!). This is another item I have used for all three of my babies, and I love how the rattan texture tied into the rest of the nursery. The lamp was another must-have for nighttime diaper changes. It’s a cordless LED lamp with a dimmer and three brightness levels, which makes it perfect for late nights without fully waking the baby.

I’m still obsessed with the goldendoodle puppy prints I found on Etsy and don’t miss my little doggie doorstop!

All the little details really do matter. I found these dog tail hooks from IKEA, and I mean…how cute are they?!

Decorating a nursery is such a special season, and I encourage you to have fun with it, follow what feels meaningful to you, and create a space you’ll love spending time in!
